Planchest
App Design
Planchest is an app created to address the main challenges of the Michael O’Connor Poster Collection: lack of organisation, limited accessibility, and insufficient information about the posters. Currently, the collection is difficult to navigate, with no proper system in place to explore themes or learn about the background of the pieces. Our app solves this by introducing an intuitive structure with themes, categories, and a search system, making it easy to find inspiration and explore the collection in depth. The design of the app is minimal and sophisticated and allows the posters to be at the forefront of the app. Simplicity and functionality were key to the design.
To make the collection more dynamic, we’ve included a community section where users can post their favourite posters from the archive, create and view other users collections and join discussions to learn more and share their opinion on any selected artwork. This helps ensure the collection grows as a valuable resource while also fostering collaboration and engagement. By digitising the collection, PlanChest preserves the posters and makes them accessible to a global audience, overcoming space and preservation issues.
The tagline, “Unlock Creativity, Discover Community,” reflects our goal of turning the collection into more than just an archive—it’s a place for creative exploration and connection. PlanChest allows users like our persona Mary —an advertising executive who often looks for new sources of design inspiration— to easily access, learn from, and engage with the collection, making it an inspiring and educational tool for designers, artists, and enthusiasts.
